Mallorca continues to top the charts as a favourite holiday destination in Europe . With over 900 hotels, 2000 restaurants, 41 harbours, 12 golf courses and nearly hundred beaches, Majorca really does have something for everyone. It has been said that Majorca 's history is as long as its coastline. Often overlooked by visitors, Palma , the capital of the Balearics has much to offer. For those wishing to take a break from the beach, check out the cities numerous architectural treasures including the 14 th century Bellver Castle , the Gothic Cathedral, the Almudaina (palace of the former Arab and Christian kings of Mallorca ), the Monastery of St. Francis and the ancient market.
There will be planned a reception in the conference hall at Tourism School or at the Bellver Castle , and a banquet in a typical Mallorcan restaurant.
The accommodation will be at hotels in Palma de Mallorca mainly in front of the sailing sport club and the tourist harbour (travel information). The area is about fifteen minutes (walking distance) to historical centre of the city, in one direction, and about the same time distance to a mall in the opposite direction. The hotels are also surrounded by restaurants, fine dining, snack bars, pubs and night clubs. The negotiated hotel's room rates for conference attendees are as low as possible but the price will depend on their category. The hotels are about 12 kilometres from the international airport. There are public buses and taxi cabs (recommended, about 20 Euros) available at the exit of the airport facilities to connect with downtown and the campus. A map of Palma is available [here].

Those participants that are travelling from non-UE countries should have
pass the customs and borders office when they arrive to Spain (or UE).
In spite of they will pass the UE border in Madrid or any other hub in
Europe, they surely have been addressed directly their baggage from
origin airport to Palma de Mallorca. For example, a passenger coming
from Sydney via Viena (UE) pass the UE border in Viena and then takes a
flight to Palma, but his/her baggage is directly sent from Sydney to
Palma. Therefore, it MAY be possible that since the baggage has an
special treatment fon non-UE passengers, it could be appeared on
different belts than the UE passengers from the same European flight
from Viena to Palma. In that case they should look for the baggage on
belts 8 and 9 (non-UE passengers) at Palma de Mallorca Airport as the
airport signs explain.

Since the technical meetings and sessions are in the UIB campus and accommodation is in downtown Palma , a shuttle bus will be provided by the organization. The bus will pick the participants up before sessions and bring them back to the hotels at the end of the meetings and social events.
There is public transportation (bus) between the campus and the downtown from early in the morning until late in the evening at about one Euro per trip. Also the conference desk will be able to order taxis on request.
The public bus that arrives to the UIB campus is number 19 and the closest 19 bus stop to the hotels is Plaza de España. To arrive from hotel's area to Plaza de España the best option is taking the bus number 3. Information about public bus transportation in Palma available [here].
